IT IS A RUSTIC OASIS OF COLOR AND BEAUTY DYEDAND HANDSPUN ROVING AND YARN FROM:
LOCAL YARN
WHITE BARN FARM YARN
Our farm yarn is luxurious, silky, springy, and very soft. It is hand dyed in the barn with an eye toward the subtle color shifts found in nature. Our sheep are raised with the utmost of care and consideration for their well being. We know you will see this in our yarn.
JILL DRAPER MAKES STUFF
We are so happy to be retail partners with JDMS. Jill sources her fiber locally (the Hudson Valley) when she can, if not it is always from the US. She is a phenomenal dyer known for her exuberant colors and space dyeing. We carry many weights. We know you will be delighted.
INTO THE WHIRLED
As far as I know we are the only ITW retailers. Our relationship with Cris and James (also Hudson Valley folks) goes back to the inception of WBF. They have graciously agreed to sell to us. ITW hand dyes roving, batts, and yarn. They are well known for innovative color combinations, often with literary, film, or TV references. We know you’ll become a fan.
KAREN LLOYD
Karen is a local multi-talented fiber enthusiast. After years on Broadway as a wardrobe specialist, she has now turned her attention to her love of spinning. We are happy to carry her yarns. They are subtle colors with a lofty twist in a variety of fiber combinations. She often spins a quantity of the same yarn, making larger projects possible.
NON - LOCAL YARN
BROWN SHEEP COMPANY
We love this company because it is all USA and the yarn is versatile and reliable. Think fair isle and aran sweaters.
MALABRIGO
We love the yarn from this Uruguayan company. It is all merino, all soft, all hand dyed in small batches. We also love their ethics. They are powered by solar and do not practice mulesing (removal of fleece bearing strips of skin from the sheep’s buttocks), in our opinion, a cruel hygiene management technique. Happy sheep=happy yarn.
JUNIPER MOON
Susan Gibbs started out as a small fiber farmer. She is credited with having the first fiber CSA (community supported agriculture. Her enterprise has since grown into a relationship with Knitting Fever. While no longer ‘farm’ yarn, they produce beautiful products inspired by years as a fiber farmer.
BERROCO
Berroco is a company based in the northeast, and a stalwart of the yarn industry. They produce a vast array of products to suit almost every knitting/crochet need. We carry yarns that are geared specifically toward beginners, large projects, and washability. they have great pattern support.
CASCADE YARNS
Cascade is based in the Pacific Northwest. They are also another stalwart of the yarn industry. They have an enormous selection of colors and weights. I specifically carry weights from their superwash line, with an eye toward gift knitting and babies. They have great pattern support and books.
DEBBIE BLISS
While Debbie Bliss is not a US company, it was very hard for me to ignore their beautiful selection of organic cotton yarn, and lovely baby/childrens patterns. The colors are soft and the yarn is a pleasure to work with.
NORO
if you are color person, it is impossible to ignore Noro. The bright, slow color changing palette makes using Noro an adventure. You look forward to the next row, just to see what will happen. We have many weights and colors.
